You’ve been dealing with numbness, tingling, or muscle weakness long enough. The uncertainty is exhausting. You need answers, not more guesswork.
EMG testing gives you those answers. This diagnostic procedure measures the electrical activity in your muscles and nerves, revealing exactly where problems exist and how severe they are. Whether it’s carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, peripheral neuropathy, or another neuromuscular condition, electromyography testing provides the clarity you need.
Once you know what you’re dealing with, you can stop wondering and start treating. No more trial-and-error approaches or living with unexplained symptoms. You get a clear diagnosis that leads to targeted treatment options that actually address your specific condition.
NY Spine Medicine has been providing specialized diagnostic services to Staten Island residents for years. Our team consists of board-certified physicians who understand both the technical aspects of EMG nerve testing and the human side of dealing with chronic pain and neurological symptoms.
You’re not just getting a test here. You’re working with specialists who’ve seen thousands of cases and know how to interpret results in the context of your specific situation. We use advanced electromyography equipment, and our team takes time to explain what we’re finding throughout the process.
This isn’t a rushed appointment where you’re left with more questions than answers. You get thorough testing, clear explanations, and practical next steps.
The EMG diagnostic testing process involves two parts: nerve conduction studies and electromyography. During nerve conduction testing, small electrodes are placed on your skin to measure how well electrical signals travel through your nerves. This part feels like brief, mild electrical pulses.
The electromyography portion involves inserting thin needle electrodes into specific muscles to measure their electrical activity. While this sounds uncomfortable, most patients find it much more tolerable than expected. The needles are very thin, and you’ll only feel brief discomfort during insertion.
Throughout the entire process, our physician explains what we’re testing and what the results indicate. The whole appointment typically takes 30-60 minutes depending on which nerves and muscles need evaluation. You’ll get preliminary results immediately, with a complete report available within a few days.

Your EMG testing includes both nerve conduction studies and electromyography testing to evaluate different aspects of your neuromuscular system. The nerve conduction portion assesses how well signals travel along your nerves, while the muscle testing evaluates electrical activity within the muscles themselves.
This comprehensive approach catches problems that single-test methods might miss. You get evaluation of nerve compression, muscle disorders, motor neuron diseases, and peripheral neuropathies all in one appointment. The testing can identify issues affecting your arms, legs, back, or neck depending on your symptoms.
Results are reviewed immediately with you, and a detailed report is sent to your referring physician. If additional treatment is needed, we provide referrals to appropriate specialists or can coordinate care directly if you’re already our patient.
